If you’re following me on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter you will have seen the big announcement already. Just a little more than a week and I will be heading to Finland, further North than I have ever been before.
So where am I going and what will I be doing? I’m travelling to the Utsjoki, the most Northern community in the Finnish part of Lapland to chase the Northern Lights with Aurora Holidays. I’m so excited about this opportunity as it has been on my bucket list for so long. I had plans to visit Iceland last year, which unfortunately I had to cancel, so I’m ecstatic to finally explore the North and be in with a change to see an Aurora Borealis.
Because Utsjoki is 450km above the Arctic Circle and let’s face it, it’s going to be winter when I’ll get there; some mental preparation was in order. The average temperature at this time of year is around -7 degrees Celsius and I’m pretty much planning to take every fleece jacket and wool jumper I own. Thankfully the guys from Aurora Holidays are used to people having a ton of questions about the arctic climate and have created an entire section about clothing on their website.
I have an action packed programme for the duration of my stay and will be posting plenty of snaps on Instagram, as well as trying to capture the beauty of Finland on Periscope (yes, I’m making the move to become a serial scoper). So find me on Instagram and let me take you to Finland with me!
